When I first arrived in the summer bridge program four weeks ago I honestly did not know the meaning of “Voice in writing” as the weeks progressed i began to get a idea in Professor Harmon’s class. He gave us all of the tools necessary to write essays but never gave us a outline. He allowed us to voice our own opinions while doing these things, he never told us what to write about or even research. He allowed everybody to be themselves with their work and pour their thoughts emotions onto the paper while still guiding us on the piece. Although at some points it was challenging , it was also enjoyable because you were able to say what you wanted to and be yourself through your work with out being judged. although we all came from different schools where we all learned different writing techniques it sometimes confused me on how to structure the paper the way he wanted me to, but as the weeks went by I began to understand the meaning of “voice in writing” more and more cause it was just being myself and writing what I felt was right.
The major symbol that catches my eye in the painting is the womens reflection on the floor , i know that it symbolizes something deeper than it appears but i cant quite put my finger on what it is inferring. its obviously her in the reflection on the floor. There appears to be a mirror in the back reflecting the horse that is in the room with her as well. Another major thing that caught my attention is the cat in the bottom right hand corner, to me the cat symbolizes independence because cats are usually independent animals.
The thing that draws my eye first is the women sitting down, she appears to be a queen, i say this because of the way she is dressed. Another thing that draws my eye is the horses in the back they are all white which is a symbol of purity. it is not obvious what she is looking at, she was playing cards before she turned to look at what she is looking at in the picture. her facial expression does not look very happy. the message i am getting from this is that money can not by happiness, because it is titled “Heritage of the Future” the women appears to be a princess or queen tha has inherited all of these riches but still does not seem to be happy. I feel that everything in this picture has a symbolic meaning behind it but I cant seem to put my finger on what exactly they mean. the women appears to be disturbed or frightened by something that is why she is no longer enjoying her card game.
“What you practice grows stronger” to me means as you practice on perfecting your craft ,what ever that may be you will continue to grow. Whether that is physically or mentally, you will practice things that you feel will have a positive effect on your life to grow stronger on your life. Like the saying “practice makes perfect” although we all know that none of us will ever be perfect we still stress this saying because it means the more you practice these lessons will become repetitive, basically self teaching yourself what to do if the situation continues to occur you will know how to face it. As you continue to practice you may learn different ways to cope with different things. and learn how to approach things from different perspectives.
what is the beginning scene supposed to symbolize, and why is he shirtless. Why is he is killing all of the black people ? Why was he shirtless throughout the video ? what was his motive for creating the video like this then calling it “This is America” ? I wonder if this video made him feel uncomfortable in anyway although they were actors how did he feel in the inside when he pretended to “shoot” them. What was the point of him shooting all of the colored people , was he trying to symbolize that this how America really is ? What do the white people at the end chasing him symbolize? Does he feel as if this is how America really is ? The video is very entertaining and exciting .
There was a lot of creative outside the box art inside of the Mint Museum, the experience was different than i expected it to be. It was my first time going to the museum but it turned out being very interesting and i actually enjoyed the experience. There were a lot of dark paintings that had very deep meanings behind them and there were some that just were artists expressing their creativity. While viewing the art I wondered what motivated these artists to create these pieces of art. Was it based off things they have been through ? Or things created by imagination? There seemed to be a lot of conflict in these photos, they were not just ordinary photos they all had deep messages behind them. While reading the descriptions of the pieces, I tried to view them as if I was the artists. I began to think outside of the box about certain pieces and really wonder what the message behind each one was. Art to me is a way of expressing feelings through drawings, paintings, sculptures, etc. While creating art you can portray your feelings/emotions by creating what comes to mind. You can think it means one thing but it will mean something totally different, that is the beauty of art you never know what to expect. I thought I knew what some of the pieces meant just by viewing them but when I actually read the descriptions they had a totally different meaning than what I anticipated The piece of art that caught my eye the most was the one of the woman who appeared to be a woman mixed with a monkey carrying her child, when I approached the piece it was a little disturbing but as I observed it harder it grew on me and became my favorite piece in the whole museum do to the hard work and detail that was put into it.

a writer discusses how she has been discouraged by others on her journey to become a writer and how they asked her if she feared being rejected or being disliked. writers get criticized by others and are described as emotionally unstable. says that artistry will eventually be anguished, she says that her greatest success is in the past. she has done research to see how ancient people and how they supported creative people in past civilizations. She says creative people in the past were viewed as gods. I am not quite understanding what she is discussing but i believe i have an idea, she seems to be discussing how creative people think and act. people who are creative in different countries are portrayed as a glimpse of god. What is her central message about creativity? Her central message about creativity is that everybody is creative in his or her own way, she feels that people who are extremely creative such as artists and authors are some time looked down upon because of their creative talent and are viewed as emotionally unstable because the way they portray their feelings to the public. she says this has been going on for centuries and still occurs present day. what is the difference between Allah and Olay ? what is a cock eyed genius ?
Jean Alexander is an actress , she says all of her movies are based off of loss and desire. Visual art can portray loss and desire as well. A photographer takes pictures of young high school males while wrestling because she feels mit is unique because it is not considered a poular sport. she enjoys seeing the people she is taking pictures for tired. she feels that masculinity is depicted in modern day america. She stayed with a family that she says she fell in love with, she began to take pictures of the younger members, sometimes dressed as the opposite sex. she began taking pictures of a young man name herbert when he was 9. being in germany opened her understanding and helped her to understand their point of view on the holocaust. she dresses them as U.S soldiers and nazi as well. she says she does not want people to walk away from the picture feeling that there is one intention she wants multiple people to be able to relate to it.
He feels the camera is a instrument, he feels that when he is creating art he can be intimate when he is producing art because he can be himself and express himself while being comfortable. he is fascinated by strange things. He like games because he fill that they are in their own little world and the game is perfected in its own world. Enjoys ceramics and feels that the outcome should represesnt what happend before. feels that everything in the picture is important from the furniture to even the trash. he says that most of his artwork he tries to create on his own inorder to someday create communication.
Creativity to me is the ability to be yourself, your own unique person. Not everybody has creativity because not everyone thinks the same. If you are creative you are capable of turning nothing into something. Whether it is fashion, writing, etc. In order to be creative one has to be able to think differently from others mentally. Creativity is based off of imagination, if someone does not have a good imagination they may not be able to be as creative as the next person who does. Everyone is creative in their own way, what one person finds creative the next person may not. That doesn’t mean that the person is not creative , everybody just doesn’t agree on everything .
